Every year, the American Hosta Growers Association selects one Hosta variety, which must meet certain requirements and then honors it with the title ‘Hosta of the Year’. 2017’s ‘Brother Stefan’ shows off its thick puckered leaves, each with a golden center and wide, irregular blue-green margins. It grows to a huge mound of 36’’ wide and 20’’ tall. As this Hosta matures the rigid puckering on its leather like leaves become more intense. It grows best in full to part shade and has tall white blooms in late spring to early summer.
Brother Stefan’s thick and textured foliage is what really makes the variety stand out from the rest.
Gardener’s Tip
